CASA HISTORY

A tropical plantation at a spectacular clifftop location just steps above famed Espelho (mirror) beach, Fazenda Braka offers some of the most stunning ocean views of Brazil and is only 45-minutes from Trancoso and 20-minutes from Caraíva river and the ultra-charming fishing village there.

This striking compound is the Bahian retreat of English art dealer Ivor Braka and his supermodel wife, Kristen McMenamy, much-loved UXUA clients who decided to create their own paradise for family and friends, with the result being one of the most unique homes imaginable, strikingly original and yet totally authentic in its materials and references to Bahia's agricultural past.

The tranquillity and natural beauty of the area are what make Fazenda Braka such a restorative stay. The house sits among verdant gardens and a tropical forest that form a seductive backdrop, the sounds of the ocean competing only with bird song.

DESIGN

The main farmhouse with its antique doors and windows was shaped from wood reclaimed from nearby Bahian farms. The atmosphere inside is open, with a long veranda overlooking the pool and ocean - a free-flowing mix of indoor and outdoor living which characterizes the tropical Bahian lifestyle.

All the casas and bungalow bedroom suites are arranged independently around the garden and its 25 meter pool, with Ivor Braka’s two-level private hideaway amongst them as a true master's 'master suite', with its own sprawling lounge, family room and kitchen.

Furniture and lighting throughout are a mix of antiques and customized pieces of the UXUA D.A.S. collection. created from reclaimed elements such as old fishing boats and sails, antique farm equipment, Pataxó crafts, handmade ceramics, reclaimed fabrics, textiles and leather, plus local organic materials such as river reeds, vines, and palm fiber.
