The first Brazilian home to be featured on the cover of renowned US architectural magazine Architectural Digest, Casa Anderson is among South America's most acclaimed private residences and stands as the most authentic and luxurious option for a short stay in Trancoso.
Located just in front of the 16th century São João Batista church, its lush 1400 m² garden filled with mature fruit trees and tropical flowers stretches all the way from the Historic Quadrado back to meet perfectly preserved Atlantic rainforest.
In between are 4 characteristic structures built by native craftsmen, each a triumph of artisanal skill and imagination, anchored at the rear by a vast pool and rustic outdoor lounge forming an ultra-private rainforest leisure zone, a true "oasis within an oasis".
Tropical yet refined, informal yet glamorous, Casa Anderson delivers a perfect homage to the best of old and new Trancoso.
Furniture and lighting throughout are a mix of antiques and customized pieces of the UXUA D.A.S. collection – created from reclaimed elements such as old fishing boats and sails, antique farm equipment, Pataxó crafts, handmade ceramics, reclaimed fabrics, textiles and leather, plus local organic materials such as river reeds, vines and palm fibre.
The first structure with its colonial facade offers views of the Historic Quadrado from an outdoor veranda and large windows of the living / dining rooms and kitchen. Bright sunlight streams through glass tiles hidden within a traditional roof.
The custom kitchen and social areas here deliver every comfort imaginable, as well as a mix of Brazilian and international artwork and enough surprising design touches – all handcrafted locally - to enchant the most seasoned traveller.
In the garden, under a canopy of trees, nestles a cozy bungalow of weathered brick housing the first guest suite. A second independent bungalow delivers the unexpected with masterfully sculpted, earthen pau a pique walls and a magnificent Shape-Shifter bed from the UXUA D.A.S. collection.
The pièce de résistance is the third bedroom, a soaring treehouse built from the reclaimed hardwoods of an old Bahian farm, suspended above an outdoor living room with its own kitchen and bar, all overlooking a seemingly endless swimming pool stretching into the rainforest, with monkeys and exotic birds completing the perfect jungle landscape.
